Ranked Choice Voting again ? I have flogged the carcass of this old horse so many times, I couldn’t possibly count them all. And yet, here we are, in the most horrible quagmire of this country’s history, with a party in power described by Noam Chomsky as “the most dangerous organization in human history” (“Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth ?”) But the Democratic Party is totally useless in this time of trouble. While the Titanic sinks, the Democratic Party is rearranging the deck chairs, or meditating on its navel. The Thomas Jefferson Effect (in which the longer a government exists, the more the wealth and power is concentrated in ever fewer hands) applies to political parties, too. The Democratic Party is a bunch of constipated old men in thrall to the influence of Money and Power ~ the Corporations, and Big Business.
Where is Hercules when we need him to clean out the Augean Stables of the Democratic Party as well as the United States government ? Divert the courses of two rivers and flush out all of that shit, so we can start fresh.
Both political parties maintain a stranglehold on electoral politics that effectively prevents any third party camel from getting its nose under the edge of the tent.
The Instant Runoff Election (Ranked Choice Voting) project is designed to relieve that problem. By allowing voters to specify five candidates in the order of their preference, a whole new potential arises for Third Parties to arise from the ashes of the destructive policies of our slash and burn President. Vote for whomever you please ~ whomever you think will be the best choice. Then, if your first few candidates be dropped out of the running, you can still have a vote left for the “stop Trump” vote (or whomever the particular vilain du jour happens to be). So you don’t have to be railroaded into selecting One Party or the Other. Let’s widen the choice and give Democracy a chance.
I am not the only one who is disgusted with the Democratic Party, and I am also not the only one disgusted with the accumulated crap of the Augean Stables of America, so let’s open the floodgates of those diverted rivers and clean up this mess.
